Blackforest Gourmet Butchery Ltd was established in 1999, 2 years after
Bernd & Michaela Mueck emigrated from Germany to live in the beautiful
land of the long white cloud.
Bernd has been a butcher for all his life, starting his apprenticeship at the tender age of 15 and going on to complete his masters certificate at the Private Fleischerschule in Heidelberg in 1976.
After initially settling in Nelson, Bernd & Michaela then spent 2 years
getting familiar with the New Zealand small goods & delicatessen
industry at a local producer.
Seeing plenty of opportunity in the Bay of Plenty, they decided Tauranga was the perfect spot for the soon to be established Blackforest Gourmet Butchery
After a short trip back to Germany to acquire the necessary specialist
equipment, the first day trading was 9th December
The range of high quality gourmet products was
very well received and in 2006 the Albany outlet opened. After continuing
to grow the production facility could no longer keep up with demand and
was moved to larger premises at
Mt. Maunganui in late 2007 and so a separate business, Blackforest Gourmet Enterprises Ltd, was born.
